P4Ms from Perkins & Hinton Growing on at Blue Sky Nursery - September 2008

  • What P4Ms will be Available at Annual Plant Sale, Saturday, April 25, 2009

  • Some History: Cultivars represented in this small collection of interesting lepidotes and elepidotes were taken as cuttings from area gardens. They were rooted in 2007 at Van Veens and have been grown at Nettle Creek Nursery for two years. These are well rooted, strong, small plants whose mother plants have done well in members' gardens in and around Niagara. P4Ms available at the sale are shown in the two groups that follow. There are small numbers of each cultivar, some are "one of a kind". Consider a pre-order to hold your choice. Click on the Plant Sales link, (top left) of this page, for links to detailed descriptions of these plants.

It's all about the blotch
About that blotch

  • P4Ms from Perkins in New Hampshire, Currently at Nursery - Available June, 2009

  • Cuttings' Source: The Perkins are naturalists, hybridizers, very knowledgeable about rhododendrons, azaleas and companion plants, and strong supporters of ARS Chapters. Their plants are to be found in a woodland property on Canobie Lake near Salem, New Hampshire. Their growing environment is similar to that of woodland southern Ontario. Because of the lake they are less susceptible to the devastating summer heat we often experience in southern Ontario in July and early August. Selections represented in the list on the acompanying link are considered to be their "good doers". The plants in Figure 1, above, will be available for members during the Open Hous at Nettle Creek Nursery on Saturday,June 13, 2009.
