Saturday, May 10, 2008 Garden Tour, Garden Evaluation and "Plants 4 Members" sale

Members are invited to a garden tour and discussion forum at The Yarmoshuk's, 57 Highland Avenue, St. Catharines. Successes and failures pertaining to growing rhododendrons and azaleas in raised beds will be described. Members will have an opportunity to see the results, favourable and unfavourable of growing many plants in a relatively small area. A manually controlled selective area watering system is on the site and may be of interest to members who wish to water their yards yet minimize water usage. Unique selections of plants for members will be available for sale at cost.

Scenes from the garden during the past 3 years are shown in the link that follows.

From time to time, the Niagara Chapter of the Rhododendron Society of Canada offers (to members) a limited number of not-commercially available rhododendrons and azaleas. These varieties are grown from cuttings taken from mature plants grown successfully in members' gardens in Niagara. These varieties are proven "good-doers in Niagara. In 2008, approximately 90 plants two-year old plants will be ready for sale to members. As in previous years a talk, in which a full description of each offered variety, will precede the sale.
