Niagara Region. MEMBERS' GARDENS Rhododendrons at Brock University
The first of these was the Al Smith Memorial Rhododendron Garden which contains approximately 100 plants. Members of the Niagara Region Chapter have developed the plantings and provided cultivars that reflect the hybridizing work of Al Smith. |
| The second collection is that of Irvine
and Sophia Maitland, founding members of the Niagara Branch and devoted
friends of the Society.
The third collection is the very interesting combination of mature rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias from the garden of Lyall Fretz that have been recently been transplanted to a site where the spring colours will provide a magnificent setting for the annual convocation exercises. Brock University is also home to a unique collection of ten outdoor art sculptures from the Lutz Teutloff Gallery in Cologne, Germany. These major works of modern sculpture symbolize the relationship between art, nature and science. Visitors will see how an engaged idealist can bring art to people outside a museum.
