 VINELAND GOLD: 'Deciduous azalea. ('Chelsea Reach' x 'Gold Dust') Cross (1982), raised, named, and described by A.W. Smith, Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario, Canada; introduced and registered by H.R.I.O. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, single, with 5 curved stamens of equal length; 3-3/8" across x 2-3/8" long, 13 per truss, 5-lobed; brilliant orange yellow (23B) with brilliant yellow (13B, 13C) markings in dorsal lobe. Calyx 1/8", green. Dome truss, 4-3/8" across x 3-1/8" high. Leaves held 1 year, 4-3/8" x 1-3/8", elliptic, flat, acute, cuneate, upper surface hairy. Plant upright and sprading, dense growth, free-flowering, 31" high x 31" wide in 5 years from seed. Blooms late May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -15F.
