VINEBELLE: 'Robert Allison' x R. yakushimanum. Cross (1962) and raised by Roy Forster at the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario, Canada LOR 2EO. Named, registered, and introduced (1978) at the H.R.I.O. Described by A.W. Smith. Buds moderate purplish pink 68C (Roseine Purple), fading as they open. Flowers of good substance, widely funnelcampanulate, 6 cm. across x 5 cm. long, with 5 wavy lobes, white, with some olive green spotting in dorsal throat. Calyx 2 mm., green. Truss 15 cm. across x 11 cm. high, ball to dome shaped, somewhat open and lax at top, with
12-14 flowers. Free flowering. Leaves held 2 years, 13 cm. x 4 cm., narrowly elliptic, flat to concave, apiculate, cuneate, glabrous, glossy, dark green, under surface with very light, plastered, tan indumentum (seen with lens). Plant upright, yet broad, 2 m. x 2 m. in 22 years. Blooms in late May. Hardy to at least -12F.
