VINEWOOD
VINEWOOD: Elepidote. ('Sham's Ruby' x R. williamsianus) Cross (1964) and raised by Roy R. Forster; named and described by A.W. Smith, both Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario, Canada; introduced and registered by H.R.I.O. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, 2" to 2-3/8" across x 1" long, 6 per truss, 5-lobed with wavy margins; moderate purplish pink (68C), reverse deep purplish pink (68A). Minute green calyx. Lax ball truss, 4" across x 2" high. Leaves held 2 years, 2-1/4" x 1-5/8", elliptic, flat, cordate base, upper surface glabrous. Plant semi-dwarf, spreading, 30" high x 30" wide in 23 years from seed. Blooms mid May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -160F.
