 VINECOURT TROUBADOR: Deciduous azalea. ('Chelsea Reach' x Unnamed red seedling) Cross (1982), raised, named, and described by A.W. Smith, Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario,
Canada; introduced and registered by H.R.I.O. Flowers strong red (41B), slightly to moderately fragrant, openly funnel-shaped, double, no stamens; 2-1/8" across x 1-3/8" long, 9 petals with wavy margins; as many as 65 flowers per multi-bud terminal cluster. Calyx less than 1/8", green. Dome truss, 4-3/8" acrossx3-l/8" high. Leaves held 1 year, 3" x 1", elliptic, flat, acute, cuneate, upper surface hairy. Plant upright, dense growth habit, free-flowering, 39" high x 26" wide in 5 years from seed. Blooms mid to late May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -15F.
