VINECOURT JESTER
VINECOURT JESTER: Deciduous ~zalea. 'Chelsea Reach' x 'Ceclie'. Cross (1979), raised, na-med, and described by A. W. Smith, Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario, Canada; introduced and registered by H.R.I.O. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, double, 2 1/8" across x 2" long, 9 per truss, 10 petals with frilled margins. Light orange yellow (168-16C) buds open to creamy yellow flowers which fade to white. Calyx minute, green. Flattened dome truss, 4" across x 2«" high. Leaves 4 1/8 x 1 5/8", elliptic, flat, apiculate, cuneate, both surfaces hairy. Plant upright, dense growth habit, free-flowering, 30" high x 24" wide in 5 years from seed. Blooms late may to early June. Plant and bud hardy to at least - 16F.
