VINEROUGE
VINEROUGE: 'Mars' x 3America'. Cross (1962) and raised by Roy Forster at the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario, Canada, LOR 2EO. Named, registered and introduced (1975) at the H.R.I.O. Described by A. W. Smith. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, 7 cm. across x 4 cm. long with 5 wavy lobes, deep red 53A (Cardinal Red). Calyx 2 mm. pink. Truss 13 cm. across x 11 cm. tall, conical, with 20 flowers. Leaves held 2 years, 13.5 cm. x 4 cm. narrowly elliptic, flat, acute with apiculus, cuneate, glabrous, medium green. Plant upright, yet broad, branching moderately, 1.2 m. tall x 1 m. wide in 22 years. Blooms in late May. Hardy to at least -160F.
