VINECOURT DUKE
VINECOURT DUKE: Deciduous azalea. ('Homebush' x Unnamed brick red seedling) Cross (1982), raised, named, and described by A.W. Smith, Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario, Vineland Station, Ontario, Canada; introduced and registered by H.R.I.O. Flowers moderately fragrant, heavy substance, openly funnel-shaped, double, no margins; as many as 55 flowers per multi-bud terminal cluster; deep pink (52B). Calyx 1/8", pale green. Ball truss, 4-1/2" across x 3-3/4" high. Leaves held 1 year, 4-3/8" x 1-3/8", elliptic, flat, acute, cuneate, upper surface hairy. Plant upright, free-flowering, 43" high x 31" wide in 5 years from seed. Blooms mid to late May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -15F.
