VINELAND FLAME
VINELAND FLAME: 'Gibraltar' x 'Favor Major'. Cross (1960) by John Henny Brooks, OR. Raised from seed and introduced by Horticulture Research Institute of Ontario, Canada. Described by A. W. Smith. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, 6 cm. across x 4 cm. long, with 5 wavy lobes, fragrant. Red Group 44A-B (R.H. S. Colour Chart). Calyx 0.5 cm., green. Truss 13-14 cm. across x 8 cm. high, ball-shaped, with 10-12 flowers. Free flowering. Leaves 12 cm. x 4 cm., narrowly elliptic, apiculate, cuneate, bullate, Yellow Green Group 147A-B, both surfaces with hairs. Plant upright, broad, branching well with arching secondary branches, 1.3 m. tall x 1.6 m. wide in 16 years. Blooms in mid-season. Hardy to at least - 15F.
